Should Facebook Add a Music Service?

facebook vibes music

A software package engineer on Thursday uncovered references to a music download service titled "Vibes" in Facebook's new video chat background software.

Jeff Rose, of lifeisagraph.com, uncovered the encode when sounding into how the FacebookVideoCalling.jar register worked on his Apple machine. He noticed references to 2 Facebook services, unrivalled called "Peep," a video chat plugin, and "Vibraharp," a music download dialogue. (See the code below).

if (paramString.equals("com.facebook.peep"))

return this.window.getMember("VideoChatPlugin");

if (paramString.equals("com.facebook.vibraphone")) {

yield this.window.getMember("MusicDownloadDialog");

}

Rose and Mashable, World Health Organization also picked up the story, are guessing this could be a reference to Facebook's upcoming music overhaul.

Now that we'rhenium starting to attend solid validation of some sort of Facebook music service it begs the question, does anyone really want a Facebook medicine service? I'm guessing that depends on what its definition of "music service" is.

We heard rumors that it power involve a variety of existing medicine services that will work with Facebook to share users listening habits with their friends. Enabling users to share information about themselves (if they choose to do so) is a part of what Facebook already does and makes this option a pretty discursive choice.

Where things get dicey is if the social network hopes to come out selling MP3s to its 750 million users.

I'm all for competition, but quite a few services out in that location aready allow people to buy in their music online. If Facebook enters the digital storefront game, it's exit to call for to dedicate its users a reason to buy songs through Facebook instead of somewhere other such as iTunes or Amazon MP3.

Facebook might also want to cost careful not to adopt as well many new features all of a sudden. Considering IT just announced the increase of Skype-powered video calling to its chat node last week and hinted at similar partnerships in the future, that might represent a problem.

The last thing Facebook wants to glucinium is a Swiss Regular army Knife website where its users hind end do anything and everything they would always want to do online. Or perhaps that's exactly what they want. Either room, I'm bad sure that approach didn't end too advisable for MySpace.

What do you think about the idea of Facebook Music and what would you like to control the service look look-alike?
